Console
This section provides instructions
to
attach any personal computer as
an
ASCII system console
to
the
9401
System Unit.
Requirements:
These instructions assume that you have the following:
• A personal computer with
an
available serial port
• DOS (IBM Version
6.1
or later) installed and operating
•
31
xx emulation program
is
required
if
Client Access/400
is
not used
Memory Considerations:
If Client Access/400, Windows, and RUMBA/400 are installed and running, the system must have at least
480K of conventional memory available. Load as many of your programs into extended or expanded
memory
as
possible. Use the DOS program MEM.EXE
to
check the amount of memory available.
You
can use the
EMM386.EXE
device driver
in
the
CONFIG.SYS
file
to
manage the amount of available
memory. For more information
on
the device driver, see the DOS manuals.
Hardware/Software Setup:
If you have a personal computer attached as
an
ASCII system console, perform the following steps:
1 Power
on
the personal computer using the personal computer manual.
2 Are you using

emulation program
on
the personal computer?
Yes
No
! Go to step 5 of this procedure.
3 Prepare
an
emulation program using the following information:
Setup Parameters
Line speed
Parity
Stop bit
Word length
Values
Select the correct line speed
None

4 Power off the personal computer and unplug the power cord from the ac outlet.
5 Ensure that the port 0 connector of the ASCII cable
is
connected to the serial port
on
the personal
computer.
Note: If the cable does not correctly match the connector
on
the workstation, you may use a
9-to-25
pin
adapter.
