IBM
ThinkPad-
Twin
axial
as
the
System
Console
This section provides instructions to attach an
IBM
ThinkPad or a similar non-IBM device to the
9401
System Unit on port
0,
address 0. Refer to the DOS, 5250 Emulation PCMCIA Adapter, and ThinkPad
documentation for reference information and problem determination.
If you are using
an
IBM ThinkPad model series 350, 500, 720, or 750, or a similar non-IBM device as the
system console, use the following information
in
this section to assist in installing and setting up the
system console:
Requirements:
These instructions assume that you have the following:
• PC attachment cable
• IBM ThinkPad model series 350, 500, 720, or 750 with a minimum of 4MB memory
• 5250 Emulation PCMCIA Adapter and PCMCIA cable
• 5250 Emulation PCMCIA Adapter Enabler/Diagnostic diskette (Version
1.01
or later)
• 5250 Emulation PCMCIA Adapter Support diskette (Version 1 .02 or later)
• DOS (IBM Version
6.1
or later) installed and operating
• PCMCIA books for your personal computer.
ThinkPad Memory Considerations:
If Client Access/400, 5250 Emulation PCMCIA Adapter support, Windows, and RUMBA/400 are installed
and running, the system must have at least 480K of conventional memory available. Load as many of
your programs into extended or expanded memory as possible. Use the DOS program MEM.EXE to
check the amount of memory available.
You can use the
EMM386.
EXE
device driver in the
CON
FIG.
SYS
file to manage the amount of available
memory. For more information
on
the device driver, see the DOS manuals.
Hardware Setup:
1 Ensure that the
9401
and the ThinkPad are powered off.
2 Install the 5250 PCMCIA card
in
the ThinkPad.
Use the instructions for installing and running diagnostics for the 5250 Emulation PCMCIA adapter
using the IBM 5250 Emulation PCMCIA Adapter Installation
and
Test Instructions.
Do
not
run
the
online test. Return here and continue with the next step of this procedure to attach the 9401.
Note:
Do
not install the cable at this time.
3 Ensure that the diskette
is
removed from drive
A,
power off the ThinkPad, and remove the power
cord from the ac outlet.
