Client
Access/400
and
Emulation
Support
This section contains instructions for installing the Client Access functions
on
a personal computer as the
system console. The personal computer can
be
an
IBM-compatible computer that has a 5250 emulation
adapter installed or a serial port available for ASCII. It can also
be
a mobile computer such as
an
IBM
ThinkPad (requires a PCMCIA adapter for a twinaxial system). You can install the support functions while
performing
an
IPL
on
the
9401
System Unit. When you have completed this procedure, return to the step
that brought you here
(in
Chapter
6,
"Perform
an
Initial Program Load").
1 Insert the Client Access/400 installation diskette 1
in
drive

2 Are you installing Client Access/400 with Microsoft Windows?
No
Yes
Perform the following steps:
a.
Start Windows if
it
is
not already active (type
WIN
at the DOS prompt and press
the Enter key).
b.
Run the Client Access/400 installation program (Install) by performing the following
procedure:
1)
Select File
on
the Windows Program Manager menu bar.
2)
Select Run
on
File menu.
3)
The Run dialog box appears. At the Command Line box, type the following
and press the Enter key:
A:
INSTALL
c.
Go to step 4 of this procedure.

To
install Client Access/400 with DOS, type the following at the DOS prompt:
A:
INSTALL
Press the Enter key.
The Client Access/400 installation program (Install) runs.
4 The Client Access/400 display appears. Press the Enter key to continue.
5 Use the following recommended information to complete the Client Access/400 installation.
Notes:
a.
See the Client Access/400 setup book (for your environment) for more information.
b.
Use the Tab key to move the cursor from one field to the next.
c.
Use one of the following methods to select the action:
• Type the action.
• Move the cursor to your selection and press the space bar.
• Type the highlighted letter.
• Type the selection number.
After all of the actions are selected, press the Enter key.
d.
Some of the fields may not appear.
