Personal Computer as the System Console
Several types of personal computers can attach to the
9401
System Unit as the system console. Use the
following information to assist in setting up your personal computer:
IBM ThinkPad or similar non-IBM device set up as a twinaxlal device
Go to "IBM ThinkPad-Twinaxial as the System Console"
on
page 3-7.
Any personal computer set up
as
an ASCII device
Go to "Personal Computer Attached as
an
ASCII System Console" on page 3-9.
Any personal computer set up
as
a Client Access/400 Console
Go to "Personal Computer as the Client Access/400 System Console"
on
page 3-11.
Programmable Workstation Local Attachment for Macintosh
Go to "Macintosh Workstation as the System Console"
on
page 3-4.
Any other type
of
personal computer as a twlnaxlal device
Use the following instructions to install the personal computer as the system console:
1 Power
on
the personal computer using the manual that came with the device.
2 Ensure that the appropriate emulator software is installed.
3 Use the emulation program to set the personal computer address to zero (0).
Notes:
a.
The personal computer can be set up so that it will start the 5250 emulation program when
an
IPL is performed.
b.
You cannot sign on to the Client Access/400 program
on
the personal computer until the
9401
System Unit has completed
an
IPL.
4 Power off the personal computer and unplug the power cord from the ac outlet.
5 Connect the cable to the workstation connector on the back of the
9401
System Unit. Verify that
the cable
is
labeled at both ends.
6 Go to Chapter
4,
"Connect the Cable and Modem for Electronic Customer Support" on page 4-1.
This ends the procedure.
