Direct (out-of-band) management method: This method uses Ethernet connections from a management
station to each controller in the storage subsystem. You must install at least one management station. The
management station can be the host or a workstation on the Ethernet network. The client software is
installed on the management station. Attach Ethernet cables to each management station (one pair per
storage subsystem). You will connect the cables to each storage system controller later when you install
the storage subsystem. Figure 37 on page 57 shows the direct (out-of-band) management method.
Note: Do not connect the DCS3700 storage subsystem Ethernet ports to a public network or public
subnet. To minimize security risks, create a private network between the DCS3700 storage
subsystem and the management station.
