Area:
The Area is the communication range
that is covered by a single repeater.
The repeater is called an area, or
access repeater in the D-STAR system.
Zone:
The Zone is composed of several areas, that are linked
by a 10 GHz microwave link.
Areas 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 make up a zone in the example
above.
Link repeater:
The microwave (10 GHz) link repeater
provides linking with another repeater
site (Area) for zone construction.
Gateway repeater:
Gateway repeaters provide communications between
different zones via the internet.
Repeater 3 and 6 are gateway repeaters at the
example above.
