Changing cables from one device to another when power is applied to the
controller is not only bad electronics handling procedure, it is not advised and, if
done by the user of this equipment, may lead to erroneous measurement results, a
hazardous situation, equipment damage and possible operator injury.
CAUTION! It is always good industry practice to turn off power to the instru-
ment before connecting or disconnecting cables.
The bakeable nude IG cable (PN → 85) is provided with push-on sockets for
connection to the nude gauge pins (BAG051 pins) and is bakeable to 200 °C (See
Bakeable Cable wiring information below). All other cables listed above are rated
for 50 °C ambient temperature. All IG cables provided by INFICON can be used
with either single or dual filament ion gauges and filament switching is controlled
from the VGC083B controller.
When using the bakeable IG cable connect to BAG051 or equivalent nude I

The information presented in this section is intended to address the installation /
connection of a nude B-A type ionization gauge head or an IG cable that you may
already have installed on your vacuum vessel which may not be directly compatible
with INFICON product designs, and you wish to continue using either that head /
cable with the VGC083.
The pin-out of the CPC connector used on Granville-Phillips
®
and INFICON Ion
Gauge cables is shown below. When using INFICON two-filament switch capable
cables such as those for use with controllers capable of switching the filament from
the control unit, e.g., the VGC083, there is an additional pin / socket connection at
contact no. 7 for FIL2. This type of cable and control unit will allow the user to
switch filaments from the control unit - there is no need to go to the head end of the
cable and physically remove, rotate and reconnect the cable connector when it is
desired to switch filaments.
