Chapter 10 Ribbon Save Device
10.6 Print Unit Assy.
Description
The Ribbon Save print unit is distinguished by the following fea-
tures, illustrated below and on next page:
• The printhead is lifted by means of a U-shaped bridge con-
nected to the printhead bracket by two long adjustable screws.
The purpose of the bridge is to help overcome the pressure of
the springs in the pressure adjusters when the printhead is lifted
by the motor during ribbon save operation.
• At the rear part of the print unit, there is an additional drive
roller that pushes the media forward when the printhead is
lifted. A spring-loaded set of pressing rollers provides the nec-
essary friction between media and drive roller. A linkage lifts
the pressing rollers when the printhead is lifted manually using
the green knob, for example at media and ribbon load.
• The rear drive roller and the platen roller are connected by
a long belt to the same stepper motor. There is no belt to
the ribbon rewind unit since it is driven by a separate stepper
motor.
