Chapter 5 Media Supply
5.2 External Supply
In addition to the internal media roll, the EasyCoder 501 S, 501 E,
and 501 SA printers can also use direct thermal media or receiv-
ing face material from an external supply, for example an external
roll or a stack of fan-folded tickets. The media is inserted into the
printer through either the upper or lower slot in rear plate. External
supply cannot be used with EasyCoder 501 LinerLess.
It is important that the media is properly aligned in parallel with
the printer’s center section. Therefore, Intermec offers an optional
“Fan Fold Kit” consisting of a bracket with two guides that can be
fi tted in either the upper or lower slot in the rear plate. The outer
guide is adjustable for different media widths. The kit also contains
two shafts and two sets of guide rolls that can be fi tted to the rear
of the print unit.
The kit can be used in many different ways as explained later in
this chapter.

IMPORTANT PRINTHEAD AND RIBBON INFORMATION
The use of any thermal transfer ribbons, other than those supplied by UBI, will invalidate
the printhead warranty.
UBI thermal transfer ribbons are engineered specifically for this printhead.
The quality of thermal and thermal transfer media supplies in this printer is also of great importance
for the quality of printing bar codes and a long life of the printhead. UBI has carefully matched the
paper we recommend/provide to the needs of this printer. We therefore strongly advise of using
only UBI recommended/provided supplies to ensure a high quality printing.
