Note that the RJ-45 connector’s lower number of connectors as compared to the D15 standard
JPS interface cable disallows special functions (such as using radio RS-232 communication for
radio channel changing) that are available with the ACU-1000 or ACU-2000.
3.3 VoIP (SIP) Interface
All VoIP connections are made through one of the unit’s four Ethernet RJ-45 LAN connectors.
The standard SIP protocol is used, allowing the use of readily available VoIP phones.

There are two VoIP connections depicted in the diagram above. One connection is via an Analog
Telephone Adapter to a PSTN port on the ACU-5000. Another connection is via SIP through an
ACU-5000 VoIP channel. Both connections ultimately result in digital audio signals that are
mixed internally in the ACU-5000. In the “non-PSTN” VoIP call, the internal ATA provides the
same function as the external ATA-to-PSTN interface does.
Additional VoIP phone users can be included, and if all ACU-5000 channels are configured for
VoIP, up to 12 VoIP phones can engage in a conference call (or two simultaneous 6-party calls,
etc.).
