ThecNODEhasasafetyvalveforreleasingpressurethatmightbuildupinsidethe
transponder.
Pressurereliefvalve
Thetransponderisttedwithapressurereliefvalveatthebottomoftheunit.The
reliefvalvepreventsoverpressure.Thisvalvewillreleasethepressureifitexceeds
approximately1.0bar.
Thereliefvalvewillnormallypopoutgentlyreleasingthepressure.Thevalveisreset
byrmlypushingthevalvebackinandislevelledwiththesurroundingsurface.
Resettingthevalvecanincertaincasesbeobstructedduetoproductionofacidsandsalts
leakingfromadamagedbattery.Insuchcasesthebatteryandcircuitsmayhavebeen
damaged.PleasecontactKongsbergMaritimeforassistance.
Ventscrew
Theventscrewisnormallynotoperatedandisforsafetypurposesonly.Theoperator
canreleaseanyexcesspressurethatmayhavebuiltupinsidethetransponder.Makesure
todryoffanywateraroundthescrewbeforeopeningit.Thescrewisnormallyopened
andclosedbyhand.
Recoveringafailingtransponder
Alwaysreadtheemergencyproceduresbeforehandlinglithiumbatteries.

Handleafailingtransponderasapossiblewateringression.
Procedure
1Evacuateallunnecessarypeople.
2Recoverthetransponderwithgreatcautionusingacrane.
Nopeopleshouldbenearthetransponderwhenitisliftedupondeck.
3Placethetransponderinasafeplaceoutondeck,shieldedfrompeopleandvital
equipment.
4Fastenthetransponderinacrane,readytoloweritintotheseaagain.
5Controlthetransponderforminimumtwohours.
6Checkfordamagesthatcouldinvolveawaterleakageandcheckthehousing
temperatureforapossibletemperatureincreaseinthelithiumbattery.
