oxygen,soanextinguishersuchasLith-Xwillnotworkproperly.
Applyingwaterdirectlyontoabatterymaydevelophydrogengas,duetothepossible
electrolysisifthebatteryterminalsareexposedtowater.Mixedwithair,thisgasisvery
inammable/explosive.However,ifthewatercoolingtakesplaceondeckorinastorage
roomwithgoodventilation,therewillneverbeenoughhydrogengastoexceedthelower
explosivelimitofhydrogeninair(about4%).

SECTION6:Accidentalreleasemeasures
Duringnormaloperation,accidentalreleasemeasuresarenotapplicable.Extreme
mechanicalabusetothebatterymayresultinarupturedsealandexposure.
Asanimmediateprecautionarymeasure,isolatethespillorleakareaatleast25metres
(75feet)inalldirections.Keepunauthorizedpersonnelaway.Stayupwind,andkeepout
oflowareas.Ventilateclosedareasbeforeentering.Wearadequatepersonalprotective
equipment.
Preventmaterialfromcontaminatingsoilandfromenteringsewersorwaterways.Stop
theleakifsafetodoso.Containthespilledliquidwithdrysandorearth.Cleanupthe
spillsimmediately.
Absorbspilledmaterialwithaninertabsorbent(drysandorearth).Scoopcontaminated
absorbentintoanacceptablewastecontainer.Collectallcontaminatedabsorbentand
disposeofitaccordingtorelevantregulations.Scrubtheareawithdetergentandwater;
collectallcontaminatedwaterforproperdisposal.
