– Push the chain at the end of the chain sliding piece up and determine the chain
tension between the swingarm and the top edge of the chain.

The upper chain section must be taut.
Chain wear is not always even, so you should repeat this measurement at
different chain positions.

while the vehicle is resting on the
side stand.

» If the chain tension does not meet specifications:
– Adjust the chain tension. ( p. 41)
8.31Checking the rear sprocket/engine sprocket for wear

– Check the rear sprocket/engine sprocket for wear.
» If the rear sprocket/engine sprocket are worn:
– Replace rear sprocket/engine sprocket.

When mounting the chain joint, always make sure that the closed
side of the joint faces forward (riding direction).
The engine sprocket, rear sprocket and chain should always be
replaced together.
– Check the chain guides for firm seating and wear.
8.32Adjusting chain tension

– Rest the motorcycle on its side stand on a horizontal surface.
– Loosen nut .
– Loosen nuts .
– Adjust the chain tension by turning the left and right adjusting screws so that
the markings on the left and right chain adjusters are in the same position relative
to the reference marks . The rear wheel is then correctly aligned.

– Tighten nuts .
– Make sure that the chain adjusters are fitted correctly on the adjusting screws .
– Tighten nut .

The wide adjustment range of the chain adjusters (32 mm) enables different
secondary transmissions with the same chain length.
The chain adjusters can be turned by 180°.
