Clinical Features
3 - LEFT LUNG RESISTANCE
The On setting will cause a full airway obstruction on the manikin.
Off - Normal
On – Extreme
Off corresponds to Resistance = 0 in scenario editor.
On corresponds to Resistance = 3 in scenario editor.
4 - ALLOW STOMACH DISTENTION
Check or uncheck the box to activate stomach distention or uncheck the box to allow trapped air to exit.
5 - EXHALE CO
2
Check or uncheck the box to enable or disable CO
2
exhalation. (Requires connection to an external CO
2
reservoir)
6 - TONGUE FALLBACK
Check the box to simulate tongue fallback. Uncheck the box to disable this function. Tongue fallback symptoms will occur unless head
is tilted back or jaw thrust maneuver is applied.
Breathing Features
Warning: Do not ventilate the manikin with oxygen enriched air or flammable gasses.
The SimMan Essential can simulate spontaneous breathing and can be connected to ventilators or used with assisted ventilations:
Bilateral and unilateral chest rise and fall
Normal and abnormal breath sounds
5 anterior auscultation sites and 6 posterior auscultation sites
Unilateral, bilateral and lobar breath sounds
Oxygen saturation and phlethysmogram
CO
2
exhalation for use with third-party et CO
2
detectors (Requires connection to an external CO
2
reservoir)

Max tidal volume: 1.2 liters
Max tidal volume registered in the Instructor Application is 900ml. All volumes higher than 900ml will register as 900ml
Max airway pressure: 80 cm H

Simulated stomach inflation starts from approximately 40cm H
2
O airway pressure. Lungs are not intended for use with
PEEP-valves.
