Figure 8. Precooler
KEY:
1. Milk line in - 2. Draining air inlet - 3. Water out during cooling - 4. Milk line out - 5. Water
out during draining - 6. Water in during cooling
Warm milk is not mixed with the cooled milk in the milk tank
There is less agitation of the milk, which reduces the risk on free fatty
acids
The efficiency of the precooler depends on the temperature and the flow of
the cooling water. The best results are reached with a water temperature
below 15 ºC (59 ºF). The cooling water that comes out of the precooler is
slightly warmed up. This water can be used as drinking water for cows or for
other purposes (e.g. cleaning). In some countries the water that is used for
precooling the milk must meet certain hygiene criteria.
The CRS M3 web interface shows the status of the precooler.
4.4.6
Valve Guard (optional)
An electronic valve guard can be installed to any valve in the tank room. The
valve guard measures if the position of the valve is correct or not: milk goes
to the milk tank and cleaning fluid goes to the sewer. After a valve is
operated by the related air valve on the air valves block, the valve guard
must send a signal to the CRS M3. If the valve guard does not send a signal
within 20 seconds after the related air valve on the air valves block was
operated, a critical alarm is generated. The cluster is then taken out of
operation.
