Anewlyinstalledhot-swapharddiskdriveisnot
recognized.
1.Makesurethatthedriveisinstalledintothecorrect
drivebay.
2.Restarttheserver.
3.Removethedrivefromthebay,wait45seconds,
andreinsertthedriveintothebay,makingsurethat
thedriveconnectstothehot-swaphard-disk-drive
backplane.
4.Ifyouhaveanydiagnosticprograms,runthe
diagnosticprogramstotesttheharddiskdrive.
5.Makesurethatthehot-swaphard-disk-drive
backplaneiscorrectlyseated.Whenitiscorrectly
seated,thedriveassembliescorrectlyconnecttothe
backplanewithoutbowingorcausingmovementof
thebackplane.
6.Makesurethatthecableconnectioniscorrect.See

7.Reconnectthebackplanepowercableandrepeat
step1throughstep4.
8.Reconnectthebackplanesignalcableandrepeat
step1throughstep4.
9.Ifyoususpectaproblemwiththebackplanesignal
cableorthebackplane:
a.Replacetheaffectedbackplanesignalcable.
b.Replacetheaffectedbackplane.
Multipleharddiskdrivesfail.1.Ifyouhaveanydiagnosticprograms,runthe
diagnosticprogramstotesttheharddiskdrives.
2.Makesurethatthecableconnectioniscorrect.See

3.Reconnectthepowercable.
4.Reconnectthesignalcable.
5.Replacetheaffectedsignalcable.
6.Forhot-swapharddiskdrives,ifyoususpecta
problemwiththebackplane,replacetheaffected
backplane.
