Systemreliabilityguidelines
Tohelpensurepropercoolingandsystemreliability,makesurethatyoufollowtheseguidelines:
•Eachofthedrivebayshasadriveoradummytrayinstalled;orthereisanelectromagneticinterface(EMI)
protectivepanelorEMIshieldinstalledtoprotectthedrivecage.
•Iftheserverhasredundantpower,eachofthepowersupplybayhasaredundantpowersupplyinstalled,
oronebayhasaredundantpowersupplywhiletheotherbayiscoveredbyashield.
•Leaveadequatespacearoundtheservertomakesurethattheservercoolingsystemworkswell.Leave
approximately50mm(2inches)ofopenspacearoundthefrontandrearoftheserver.Donotplace
objectsinfrontofthefans.Forpropercoolingandairow,installtheservercoverbeforeyouturnon
theserver.Operatingtheserverforextendedperiodsoftime(morethan30minutes)withtheserver
coverremovedmightdamageservercomponents.
•Properlyroutethecables.Forsomeoptions,suchasPCIcards,followthecablinginstructionsthatcome
withtheoptionsinadditiontotheinstructionsinthismanual.
•Makesurethatyoureplaceafailingfanwithin48hours.
•Whenreplacingahot-swapdrive,installthenewhot-swapdrivewithintwominutesofremoval.
Workinginsidetheserverwiththepoweron
Attention:Staticelectricitythatisreleasedtointernalservercomponentswhentheserveristurnedonmightcause
theservertohalt,whichmightresultinthelossofdata.Toavoidthispotentialproblem,alwaysuseanESDwriststrap
orothergroundingsystemwhenyouworkinsidetheserverwiththepoweron.
Theserversupportshot-swapdevicesandisdesignedtooperatesafelywhileitisturnedonandthecoveris
removed.Followtheseguidelineswhenyouworkinsidetheserverwiththepoweron:
•Avoidwearingloose-ttingclothingonyourforearms.Buttonlong-sleevedshirtsbeforeworkinginside
theserver;donotwearcufflinkswhileyouareworkinginsidetheserver.
•Donotallowyournecktieorscarftohanginsidetheserver.
•Removejewelry,suchasbracelets,necklaces,rings,andloose-ttingwristwatches.
•Removeitemsfromyourshirtpocket,suchaspensandpencils.Theseitemsmightfallintotheserveras
youleanoverit.
•Avoiddroppinganymetallicobjectsintotheserver,suchaspaperclips,hairpins,andscrews.
