Theuseofagroundingsystemisrecommended.Forexample,itisrecommendedtowearanelectrostatic
discharge(ESD)wriststrap,ifoneisavailable.EnsurethatyouworkinanESD-safearea.Selecta
groundingsystem,suchasthoselistedbelow,toprovideprotectionthatmeetsthespecicservice
requirement.
Note:TheuseofagroundingsystemtoguardagainstESDdamageisdesirablebutnotnecessary.
AttachtheESDgroundcliptoanyframeground,groundbraid,orgreen-wireground.
Whenworkingonadouble-insulatedorbattery-operatedsystem,useanESDcommongroundor
referencepoint.Youcanusecoaxorconnector-outsideshellsonthesesystems.
Usethegroundprongoftheacplugonac-operatedservers.
Systemreliabilityguidelines
Tohelpensurepropercoolingandsystemreliability,makesurethatyoufollowtheseguidelines:
Eachofthedrivebayshasadriveoradummytrayinstalled;orthereisanelectromagneticinterface(EMI)
protectivepanelorEMIshieldinstalledtoprotectthedrivecage.
Iftheserverhasredundantpower,eachofthepowersupplybayhasaredundantpowersupplyinstalled,
oronebayhasaredundantpowersupplywhiletheotherbayiscoveredbyashield.
Leaveadequatespacearoundtheservertomakesurethattheservercoolingsystemworkswell.Leave
approximately50mm(2inches)ofopenspacearoundthefrontandrearoftheserver.Donotplace
objectsinfrontofthefans.Forpropercoolingandairow,installtheservercoverbeforeyouturnon
theserver.Operatingtheserverforextendedperiodsoftime(morethan30minutes)withtheserver
coverremovedmightdamageservercomponents.
Properlyroutethecables.Forsomeoptions,suchasPCIcards,followthecablinginstructionsthatcome
withtheoptionsinadditiontotheinstructionsinthismanual.
Makesurethatyoureplaceafailingfanwithin48hours.
Whenreplacingahot-swapdrive,installthenewhot-swapdrivewithintwominutesofremoval.
Workinginsidetheserverwiththepoweron
Attention:Staticelectricitythatisreleasedtointernalservercomponentswhentheserveristurnedonmightcause
theservertohalt,whichmightresultinthelossofdata.Toavoidthispotentialproblem,alwaysuseanESDwriststrap
orothergroundingsystemwhenyouworkinsidetheserverwiththepoweron.
Theserversupportshot-swapdevicesandisdesignedtooperatesafelywhileitisturnedonandthecoveris
removed.Followtheseguidelineswhenyouworkinsidetheserverwiththepoweron:
Avoidwearingloose-ttingclothingonyourforearms.Buttonlong-sleevedshirtsbeforeworkinginside
theserver;donotwearcufflinkswhileyouareworkinginsidetheserver.
Donotallowyournecktieorscarftohanginsidetheserver.
Removejewelry,suchasbracelets,necklaces,rings,andloose-ttingwristwatches.
Removeitemsfromyourshirtpocket,suchaspensandpencils.Theseitemsmightfallintotheserveras
youleanoverit.
Avoiddroppinganymetallicobjectsintotheserver,suchaspaperclips,hairpins,andscrews.
