Recovering from a Failed Image Upgrade using XModem Download
Usethefollowingproceduretorecoverfromafailedimageupgrade.
1. ConnectaPCtotheserialportoftheswitch.
2. OpenaterminalemulatorprogramthatsupportsXmodem download(for
example,HyperTerminal,SecureCRTorPuTTY)andselectthefollowingserial
portcharacteristics:
Speed: 9600bps
DataBits: 8
StopBits: 1
Parity: None
FlowControl: None
3. ReloadtheswitchandaccesstheBootManagementmenubypressingShift + B
whenthefollowingmessageappearsandthedotsarebeingdisplayed.
4. EnterBootRecoveryModebyselecting<R>.TheRecoveryModemenuwill
appear.
5. SelectXforXmodemdownload.Youwillseethefollowingdisplay:
6. Whenyouseethefollowingmessage,changetheSerialPortspeedto115200bps:
7. PressEntertosetthesystemintodownloadacceptmode.Whenthereadiness
meterdisplays(aseriesof“C”characters),startXmodemonyourterminal
emulator.Youwillseeadisplaysimilarto
thefollowing:
8. Selecttheimagetodownload.Xmodeminitiatesthefiletransfer.Whendownload
iscomplete,youareaskedtochangetheSerialPortspeedbackto9600bps:
9. PressEntertostartinstallingtheimage.
Press shift-B for startup menu or shift-R for recovery mode: ...
Running xmodem rescue.....
Change the baud rate to 115200 bps and hit the <ENTER> key before
initiating the download.
... Waiting for the <Enter> key to be hit before the download can start...
