About this task
Attention:
Go over
“Installation Guidelines” on page 137 to ensure that you work safely.
Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see
“Power off the server” on page 12).
If the server is installed in a rack, slide the server out on its rack slide rails to gain access to the top cover,
or remove the server from the rack.
Procedure
Step 1. Make preparations for this task.
a. Remove the top cover (see
“Remove the top cover” on page 240).
b. Remove both PCIe riser cages or fillers, the chassis air baffle, and the PCIe expansion tray (see
“Remove a 4U PCIe riser cage” on page 255, “Remove the chassis air baffle” on page 270, and
“Remove the 4U PCIe expansion tray” on page 249).
c. Disconnect cables that are connected to the adapters.
Step 2. Grasp and lift the PCIe riser assembly to remove it from the system board.

After this task is completed
Fill the riser slot with a replacement unit or a filler (see
“Install the PCIe riser assembly” on page 193).
If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use
any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
