MODEL 9DP-1 Operator’s Manual
Ludlum Measurements, Inc. 50 December 2015
The power charger input accommodates 108-240 V at between 50/60 Hz. The
output is 15.0 V at 1600 mA. To ensure proper charging, do not use chargers
with other specifications than those listed above. Charging circuitry to monitor
battery levels and protect the NiMH batteries from over-charging is all built into
the Ludlum instrument.
The instrument power charge receptacle is located on the backside of the
instrument just beneath the handle and to the right. It has a small spring-loaded
door to keep moisture out. To plug the power adaptor into the receptacle, simply
raise the cover and insert the adapter. With the instrument turned off, there is no
visual indication that charging is taking place either on the instrument or on the
supplied charger. By turning on the instrument, the battery icon will
appear with the red lightning bolt indicating charging is actually taking place.
There is no harm in leaving the charger connected for periods longer than is
necessary to fully charge the battery pack. The instrument includes circuitry that
will automatically regulate the power output so the batteries are never over-
charged.
The battery compartment is located on the bottom side of the instrument and has
a cover plate, which can be removed by a quarter-turn twisting screw. Removing
the battery pack can be accomplished by easing in a flat utensil along either side
and gently prying the battery out of its protective cavity.
An optional alkaline battery pack (Part Number: 4543-028) is available for
extended emergency field use in the event that you need to extend operating
hours between charges. This battery pack facilitates exchanging AA alkaline as
often as required. With this battery pack inserted, charging is prevented even
when the charger is plugged into the instrument power receptacle.
