5 UHF frequencies
5.1 Frequency regulations
The uPASS Target reader operates on the 860 960 MHz band. Regulations in this band are not standardized world-
wide. It is important to ensure that the uPASS reader is operated using the correct country / frequency setting.
Normally the country of operation is already preconfigured at Nedap.
In case the UHF frequency region is not yet selected, then follow the procedure below to setup.
The reader will not emit any RF field and not read tags until this is properly configured.
No frequency region configured
When a reader’s frequency region is not yet configured, the LED at the front will flash pink periodically.
Connect with UHFTOOL to configure the frequency region. UHFTOOL will automatically detect and prompt to setup the
frequency region. You only need to do this once. The setup procedure is obviously skipped when the frequency region is
already configured
Select the country of installation
You can only select a country / frequency setting that matches with your uPASS reader hardware model.
Notes
It is important to purchase the correct hardware model: region 1 or 2&3 (see appendix E). The hardware model
cannot be changed after purchase.
The frequency setting must comply with local laws and regulations. You, the user, are responsible to ensure
operation with the correct country / frequency setting and are solely liable for the consequences due to any
incorrect or non-compliant settings.
5.2 Frequency hopping
If local radio regulations require frequency hopping (FHSS), then the uPASS Access automatically selects and uses all
available channels.
If no frequency hopping is required, you can select a fixed frequency channel manually. This can be realized as
described in chapter 6.5.4. Select an unused available frequency to achieve the best performance and to avoid
interference from other readers or equipment.
