If you change the name of the NCSETUP5.BIN (or
NCSETUP1) file, the D300(S) will not be able to reload your
settings from it. Also, if you save the settings when an
existing file is on the memory card, it will be overwritten
without prompting you for permission.
My Recommendation: I think this function is a great idea.
After using my new camera for a few days and getting it set
up just right, I save the settings file to my computer for
safekeeping. Later, if I accidentally remove my favorite
settings in one or all of the memory banks, I just put the
