The grid pad corresponding to the currently selected Patch will be illuminated white and the
others will be orange (Drums 1 and 2) or yellow (Drums 3 and 4). The default Drum Patches are
summarised in the table below:
Drum Patch No. Page No. Patch
1 1 1 Default page for
Drums 1 & 2
Kick
2 17 1 Snare
3 33 2 Default page for
Drums 3 & 4
Hi-hat (closed)
4 37 2 Hi-hat (open)
To select a different Patch, press its pad. The selected drum track (1 to 4) will now adopt the
sound dened by the new Patch. You can hear what the Patches sound like while in Patch
View by using Circuit’s Patch Preview feature. Pressing a pad plays the Patch. If you hold down
Shift
19
while pressing a pad in Patch View, Preview is disabled; this may be desirable in live
performance when you know which patch you’re and don’t need to hear it on selection.
Sample Flip
You can audition the Drum Patches while in a Patch View in a similar manner to Patch Preview
for the synth Patches (see “Patch Preview” on page 27). If you hold down Shift
19
while
pressing a pad in Patch View, Preview is disabled; this may be desirable in live performance
when you know which patch you’re using and don’t need to hear it on selection.
Sample ip in real time:
With a drum track selected, Patch View works slightly differently to synths: if you hit
Record
12
, you can play a selection of drum samples in real time, and Circuit will record
your performance. You can do this independently for each of the four Drums: this is a very
powerful feature as it lets you use the full palette of drum samples throughout the Pattern. It
may be helpful to record a basic pattern on a different track to give a timing reference when you
do this.
You can also apply a Sample Flip to an existing Pattern in real time by recording the sample
changes independently of the notes or drum hits. Enter Patch View and press Play; hold down
Shift
19
and press the pad for the new sample; the point in the Pattern at which the sample
change will be saved does not have to be a Pattern step where a note or hit is recorded. The
important principle here is that Circuit records notes and hits at Pattern steps independently
of recording sample changes and automation data. It may be helpful to think of Circuit having
an extra, “virtual” recording track specically for sample changes and automation moves, in
addition to the two Synth and four Drum tracks.
If you want to cancel your changes, you can do so by holding down Clear
16
and pressing any
pad in Patch View. This will clear all the sample changes in the current Pattern.
