Troubleshooting Test Steps
Values Results
4. Check the Internal Resistance of the Suspect
Component
For a suspect DEF injector, complete Steps A to C.
For a suspect coolant diverter valve, complete Steps D to F.
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Disconnect the connector for the DEF injector.
C. Measure the resistance between pins 1 and 2 on the
injector.
D. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
E. Disconnect the connector for the coolant diverter valve.
F. Measure the resistance between pins 1 and 3 on the cool-
ant diverter valve.
Internal resistance Result: On a DEF injector, the measured resistance is
less than 6.0 Ohms or more than 8.0 Ohms. There is a
fault in the injector.
Repair: Install a replacement DEF injector.
Result: On a DEF injector, the measured resistance is
between 6.0 Ohms and 8.0 Ohms.
Proceed to Test Step 5.
Result: On a coolant diverter valve in a 12 VDC system,
the measured resistance is less than 9.0 Ohms or more
than 13.0 Ohms. On a coolant diverter valve in a 24
VDC system, the measured resistance is less than 25.0
Ohms or more than 37.0 Ohms. There is a fault in the
valve.
Repair: Install a replacement coolant diverter valve.
Result: On a coolant diverter valve in a 12 VDC system,
the measured resistance is between 9.0 Ohms and 13.0
Ohms. On a coolant diverter valve in a 24 VDC system,
the measured resistance is between 25.0 Ohms and
37.0 Ohms.
Proceed to Test Step 5.
5. Check the Wiring Between the Suspect Component and
the 31-Pin Connector for an Open Circuit
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Disconnect the 31-pin connector and the solenoid connec-
tor for the suspect circuit.
C. Use a multimeter to check the resistance between the sig-
nal terminal on the 31-pin connector and the signal terminal
on the component connector.
Refer to Illustration 144 .
D. Use a multimeter to check the resistance between the re-
turn terminal on the 31-pin connector and the return terminal
on the component connector.
Refer to Illustration 144 .
E. Reconnect the connectors.
Open circuit Result: One of the measured resistances is greater than
2 Ohms - There is a fault in the wiring between the 31-
pin connector and the component connector.
Repair: Repair or replace the faulty wiring.
Use the electronic service tool to clear all logged diag-
nostic codes and verify that the repair eliminates the
fault.
Result: All measured resistances are less than 2 Ohms.
Proceed to Test Step 6.
