Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
2. Spray Water on the Belt
Note: Best results are achieved when the engine is running.
Only perform this step with the engine running if the conditions
are safe. If necessary, stop the engine.
A. Spray water on the belt in the area around the tensioner.
This will reduce the friction between the pulleys and the belt.
B. Run the engine and check for noise.
Noise Result: The noise is reduced or eliminated and returns
when the belt dries. There may be an issue with the align-
ment of the system.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: The noise is worse or louder. The belt may be slip-
ping. There maybe an issue with the tension of the system.
Proceed to Test Step 4.
