seconds), the monitor will try to connect with the server and will export the most recent
trend record, plus all new alarm records that have not been exported from the trending
database. If the network is temporarily unavailable, once connection is reestablished,
new trend data and alarms will be sent.
Spectrum Management
Spectrum management is the selection of the frequencies for wireless devices within a
facility to prevent interference between devices.
Site planning requires an assessment of existing 802.11 devices in the desired coverage
area and other devices that may cause interference in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency
bands. A spectrum analyzer can determine the existence of interference.
The Efficia CM Series monitor can be operated in both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
Select the correct domain for your location/country. Where not specified by local
regulations, Philips recommends that you deploy your Efficia CM Series monitor in the 5
GHz band for the following reasons:
The 5 GHz band supports more channels than the 2.4 GHz band.
The number of other devices that operate in the 5 GHz band is less than the number
of other devices that operate in the 2.4 GHz band.
Caution To achieve an acceptable performance level, RF activity must be managed. In some
sites, the use model and floor plan ensure that overloading will not occur. In other
sites, active device management may be necessary (that is, restricting the number of
wireless monitors in an area or floor).
If your network has interference issues, consider the following general recommendations:
Access points should be positioned a minimum of 6 m (20 ft) from microwave ovens. Do
not place a microwave oven between the access points and the wireless monitors.
Other devices that can radiate in these ranges and create interference are:
Other wireless networks
Some wireless telephone headsets
Devices using BlueTooth technology
Cordless telephones
Some programming devices for pacemakers
Wireless mouse devices
Devices using ZigBee technology, for example wireless headphones
Some local regulations require the hospital to track and license all wireless devices used
within the facility. To manage spectrum, record the interference levels and devices used
at the time of installation. This record can then be used as a baseline for future
assessment if interference problems arise after installation.
