6 Device description
6.1 Functional description
With its compact dimensions, the device is used in the narrow conditions of laser sys-
tems for power measurement. Normally, the device is positioned underneath the focus
position of the beam path. If this is not possible, the device can be positioned above the
focus.
The laser beam passes through the protective glass and hits the absorber, where the
temperature is recorded. The display shows the measured laser power and further infor-
mation on the status of the device.

6.2 Measuring principle
The device measures the laser power according to the calorimetric principle. The
absorber of the device is irradiated with the laser for a short period of time. The tem-
perature of the absorber is recorded at the beginning and end of the irradiation. Based
on the temperature rise and the thermal properties of the absorber, the microprocessor-
based electronics are able to calculate the laser power with high accuracy.
