In MANUAL mode, one of two speeds may be selected by toggling the “Speed” key on the keypad of the
RC4500.
There are two different slow speed systems available on the RC2500. The first system simply has a relay
driver output that selects one of two speeds. These two speeds should then be adjusted to the desired
level at the AIU. There is no fine speed adjustment in the RC4500 for this case.
The second system controls the fast and slow speeds directly from the low-voltage motor drive circuit
within the RC4500. Both fast and slow speeds may be fine tuned for each axis that is being directly driven
by the RC4500.
The CONFIG-EL DRV screen contains configuration items for customizing the characteristics of the motor
drive for the Elevation axis.
FAST:100 ACC:250 CONFIG-EL DRV
SLOW: 50 DEC:250 JAM: 4 FDB:1000
CL:100 IR: 0 RUN: 200 SDB: 500
FAST VOLTAGE <0-100 % OF MAX>
FAST: FAST VOLTAGE <0-100 % OF MAX>
SLOW: SLOW VOLTAGE <0-100 % OF MAX>
The FAST/SLOW setting represents the percentage of maximum voltage that the motor drive will output to
the motor for the elevation axis based upon the current speed (FAST or SLOW). The motor drive of the
RC4500 will supply 24VDC by default. The output voltage is decreased by way of pulse width modulation.
A similar process may be followed to adjust the speed settings of the Azimuth and Polarization axes.
The slow speed for an axis should be set low enough that automatic movements perform smoothly. Care
should be taken that slow speed is not set so low that the axis is prone to jamming.
