RC4500 Antenna Controller Chapter 3 Mechanical & Electrical Installation

3.1.2.4 Antenna I/O
J7 is a 25 pin D-subminiature male receptacle used for Antenna I/O. This connector acts as the antenna
motion control port of the RC4500. This port consists of 9 optically-isolated, low-side transistor relay
drivers rated at 70mA sink each. Max voltage is +27 VDC on these drivers. Current is returned to the AIU
via the Drive Common line (pins 2, 5 and 8.) There are 4 additional unused relay drivers for future
expansion. In addition to these drivers, this port supports four 24 VDC, low current status inputs, two of
which (Emergency Stop and Maintenance) have isolated returns.

<1>
25 Maintenance status return
<1> Maintenance Input – When current flows in the MAINTENANCE – MAINTENANCE RETURN circuit the controller assumes
that the AIU is able to accept drive commands from the controller. If current is not flowing in the MAINTENANCE –
MAINTENANCE RETURN circuit the controller disables antenna control and displays the ‘Maintenance’ alarm message.
This terminal also powers all of the RC4500’s isolated output drive circuits (AZ CCW/CW, EL DOWN/UP, POL CCW/CW, AZ/EL
FAST and DRIVE ENABLE.) 17 to 27 volts DC is required to power the controller’s output circuits. The current that powers the
output drive circuits flows out of the DRIVE COMMON terminals back to the AIU.
