Managing Sample Tube Breakage
When a sample tube breaks during centrifugation, the centrifugation
continues until the end of the cycle. The robot removes cassettes from the
Centrifuge and loads unspun cassettes into the Hettich unit.
Detecting a Broken Tube by Cassette Weight
When the robot removes a cassette with a broken tube from the Hettich
unit and places it on the scale, a change in weight registers. The Centrifuge
module goes to E-stop. See Recovering from an E-stop ‚ page 75.
Detecting a Missing Tube by Survey
If a sample tube breaks during a tube transport to or from a cassette, the
system goes to red Shutdown.
WARNING
Do not reach into the Hettich centrifuge unit through the hatch to
remove sample tubes, cassettes or buckets. Reaching into the Hettich
centrifuge unit through the hatch can cause bodily injury. Pull out the
Hettich centrifuge unit and open the lid to remove any components.
CAUTION
Do not pull out the Hettich centrifuge unit while the robot is inside the
Hettich centrifuge unit. For instructions on raising the robot up, see
Lifting the Robot from the Hettich Unit , page 72.
BIOHAZARD
Wear personal protective equipment. Use universal precautions. Refer to
Appendix A, Safety Information for recommended precautions when
working with biohazardous materials.
WARNING
Do not load contaminated sample tubes in the Sample Manager. All
products or objects that come in contact with human blood, even after
cleaning, should be handled as if capable of transmitting infectious
diseases. Wear facial protection, gloves, and protective clothing. Clean
the sample tubes before checking them into the Sample Manager.
