Failure in wheel alignment
If the undercarriage is improperly
adjusted, this not only increases wear
on tyres, but also reduces safety while
driving. If you observe excessive tyre
wear, an ocial SILENCE service shop
must check wheel alignment.
Inappropriate handling of tyres and wheels
can lead to sudden pressure loss in tyres,
loss of tread, or even exploding tyres.
• The driver is responsible for inating all
the vehicle’s tyres to the correct pressure.
The recommended ination pressure is
indicated on a sticker >>> Fig. 10.
• Regularly check tyre pressure and always
keep it at the recommended ination
pressure. If the tyre’s pressure is too low,
the tyre may overheat, causing the tread to
come o and even explosion.
• When the tyres are cold, they should
always match the pressure on the sticker
>>> Fig. 10.
• Regularly check tyre pressure when tyres
are cold. If necessary, adjust mounted tyre
pressure when the tyres are cold.
• Regularly check that the tyres show no
signs of wear or damage.
• Never exceed the speed and maximum
load permitted for your vehicle’s tyre type.
WARNING
INFORMATION
If tyre pressure is insucient, it increases
energy consumption.
Wear indicators
At regular intervals and crosswise
from the direction the vehicle drives,
there are wear indicators at the
bottom of the original tyres’ tread
that are 1.6 mm high >>> Fig. 11. The
minimum prole depth permitted
is reached when the tyres are worn
down to the wear indicators. Replace
the tyres with new ones.
Fig. 11 - Wear indicator.
Tyres must be replaced at the latest
when the wear indicators are worn down.
Otherwise, you run the risk of an accident.
• Especially when driving under adverse
weather conditions, such as rain and ice.
It is important that the tread on the tyres
be as deep as possible, and that it be
approximately the same on the tyres on
the rear and front axles.
• Poor driving safety due to insucient
tread depth is clear especially when
driving, with the risk of “aquaplaning”
when driving through deep puddles, when
driving on curves, and in braking behaviour.
• If you do not adapt your speed, you can
lose control of the vehicle.
WARNING
Snow chains
After driving for a few metres, check
that they are properly in place; correct
their position if necessary
by following manufacturer installation
instructions.
Remember the maximum speed of 50
km/h (30 mph).
