If the spring pops out, refit it in the spring housing as
follows:
N Fit anchor loop of rewind spring (11) over the lug (26).
N Fit the rewind spring (11) in the housing clockwise,
holding it in place at the same time.
N Push the rewind spring (11) fully into its seat in the
spring housing (12).
Installing the rewind spring
N Lubricate the rewind spring (11) in the spring housing
with special lubricant before installing.
N Fit the spring housing (12) with rewind spring (11) in
the starter cover (9) so that it locates against the
contour (arrow).
N Press the spring housing (12) fully home so that all
locking tabs snap into place.
N Install the rope rotor, @ 6.10.
6.10 Installing the Rope Rotor
WARNING
The rewind spring can pop out and cause serious eye and
hand injuries. Wear safety glasses and work gloves.
N Install the rewind spring, @ 6.9.
N Lubricate starter post (27), eyelet (arrow) of rewind
spring (11) and the recess (arrow) in the rope rotor
(13) with multipurpose grease.
N Wind the starter rope (3) onto the rotor (13)
counterclockwise so that it is not tensioned when the
rotor (13) is fitted in place.
N Push the rope rotor (13) onto the starter post (27) so
that the eyelet (arrow) of the rewind spring (11)
engages the recess (arrow) in the rotor (13).
N Install the spring housing, @ 6.11.
6.11 Installing the Spring Housing
N Fit the bushing (16) in the spring housing (17).
N Lubricate the bushing (16) with multipurpose grease.
N Fit the pawls (17).
N Fit the spring (14) so that the lobes of the pawls (15)
are outside the spring (14).
N Push the spring (14) into the guides (arrows).
N Push the spring housing (17) onto the starter post.
