17.2 Using the Trimmer / Brushcutter
WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries to the operator
or bystanders, keep hands, feet and other parts of the body
away from the cutting attachment, @ 5.7.2. Do not touch
the cutting attachment while the battery connecting cord is
inserted into the trimmer / brushcutter socket. Never touch
the moving cutting attachment with your hand or any part of
your body, @ 5.7.4.
WARNING
Always wear proper clothing and protective apparel,
including proper eye protection, when operating your
trimmer, @ 5.5. Keep bystanders at least 50ft. (15m) away
from the work area, @ 5.7.4. Work carefully and maintain
proper control of the trimmer, @ 5.7.2.
The trimmer / brushcutter is designed for two-handed
operation.
► When working with a mowing head, swing the unit back
and forth carefully in a controlled manner parallel to the
ground, as depicted in Illustration A, above.
► When working with a grass cutting blade or brush knife,
sweep the unit in a controlled pattern parallel to the
ground as depicted in IllustrationB, above.
► Move forward slowly, keeping two hands on the unit at all
times.
Observe all applicable laws, regulations, standards and
ordinances.
17.3 Adjusting the Nylon Line
WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury from unintended
activation, always switch off the motor and remove the
connecting cord from the trimmer before manually adding or
adjusting the nylon line.
AutoCut Mowing Heads
► While the cutting attachment is rotating, tap the rotating
mowing head on the ground.
Approximately 1.2in. (30mm) of fresh nylon line will be
advanced with each tap. The line limiting blade in the
deflector trims the mowing line to the proper length.
The bump feed mechanism will not advance additional line
if the mowing line is shorter than 0.1in. (25mm). To feed
additional line manually:
► Switch off the power tool and remove the connecting cord.
► Depress and hold the button on the mowing head.
► Pull out the mowing line by hand.
► If the mowing line cannot be pulled out to the required
length, install a new spool of line.
SuperCut Mowing Heads
Fresh nylon line will be advanced automatically without
tapping on ground. The line limiting blade in the deflector
trims the mowing line to the proper length.
The automatic feed mechanism will not advance additional
line if the mowing line is shorter than 0.1in. (25mm). To
feed additional line manually:
► Switch off the power tool and remove the connecting cord.
► Depress and hold the button on the mowing head.
► Pull out the mowing line by hand.
► If the mowing line cannot be pulled out to the required
length, install a new spool of line.
STIHL recommends keeping nylon line in a water bath for at
least 12 to 24 hours before use to increase its useful life.
