11.6.1 Mounting a Metal Cutting Attachment
WARNING
Grass blades and brush knives have many sharp cutting
edges. If they contact your flesh, they will cut you, even if the
metal cutting attachment is not moving. Always wear heavy-
duty work gloves when mounting or otherwise handling a
metal cutting attachment, @ 5.5.
WARNING
A metal cutting attachment that is damaged or loose may
vibrate, crack, break or come off the unit, which may result
in serious or fatal injury or property damage. Make sure the
metal cutting attachment is properly tightened and in good
condition before starting work, @ 5.7.4.
To mount a metal cutting attachment:
► Switch off the power tool, @ 15.2.
► Remove the connecting cord, @ 14.2.
► Position the unit so that you are facing the underside of
the deflector and the drive shaft is pointed upwards.
► Slip the thrust plate(5) onto the drive shaft(6). Keep the
side of the thrust plate with the smaller diameter facing
upwards.
► Place the cutting attachment(4) directly on top of the
thrust plate. Ensure that the cutting attachment is
positioned to rotate in the direction indicated on the
deflector.
► Slip the thrust washer(3) onto the drive shaft. Keep the
arched side facing up and the flat side facing towards the
metal cutting attachment.
► Slip the rider plate(2) onto the drive shaft.
► Insert the stop pin(7) in the hole in the gearbox and rotate
the cutting attachment until the stop pin slips into position
and blocks the rotation of the drive shaft.
