2x ½" cement boards are ALWAYS MANDATORY under the fireplace.
If a podium made of combustible materials is installed, it must be
protected by ½’’ cement boards on top and in front.
For the Stûv 21, there is no R Value to be considered when installing floor finishing
materials. All materials installed under and in front of the fireplace must be non
combustible to a height of 6 ½’’, see below for additional information.

All components located in the hearth extension zone, for a height of 6 ½’’ from
the bottom of the glass must be in non combustible materials.

In order to be compliant with building codes floor protection is mandatory. The
surface of the floor in front of the unit must be protected by non combustible floor
protection (tile, plate, slab..) .
This protection must cover the width of the glass plus 8’’ on each side of the glass
(see table (P)) according regulations per Country.
A non combustible sealing strip must be placed through the whole length of
the junction between the cement board and the finished floor to avoid ember
projections.
