4. Power on the server.

Avoiding Electrostatic Discharge

Whenever you work with the server’s internal components, follow this procedure to

prevent damage caused by static electricity.

You need the following items:

■ Antistatic wrist or foot strap

■ Antistatic mat

1. Power off the system.

See “Powering Off the Server” on page 22.

2. Remove the server cover.

See “Removing the Server Cover” on page 27.

3. Attach one end of the antistatic strap to the grounding point inside the server, and

the other end to your wrist (
