4) periodically lubricate the wire rope with oil to reduce friction
between wire rope elements and between the rope and
winding equipment.
5.3 LIFTING HOOK
WARNING
The hook (8 in Fig. 55) must be checked periodically,
depending on operation, to ensure that it is in good con-
dition.
Be extremely cautious during these checks after great
chills or when operation is required in unusual work con-
ditions, i.e. operation in special sites as well as lifting of
extremely heavy loads.
5.4 DIESEL ENGINE
WARNING
For maintenance, lubrication and service of the cooling
system, refer to the attached Instruction Manual for Ope-
ration and Maintenance of the CATERPILLAR engine.
For engine inspection, open the side doors of the engine
compartment.
5.4.1 AIR FILTER
WARNING
Switch off the engine before starting air fi lter inspection,
cleaning and maintenance.
Whenever compressed air is used, be careful with fl ying
polluting particles which may cause personal injury. In
these cases, wear goggles, a mask and other personal
protection equipment.
The air fi lter is supplied with a “fi lter clogged” indicator. When
a red band appears on the indicator, the fi ltering cartridge is
clogged. It requires cleaning or replacement (if it has already
been cleaned for six times).
