Istruction Manual for Operation and Maintenance SPX-960:
5.5.2 DIESEL FUEL TANK
Both tanks (diesel fuel and hydraulic oil) are actually one big
container divided into two separate parts (Fig. 58)
Diesel fuel is re lled through a ller (1 Fig. 60).
The diesel fuel tank has a 720 liter capacity.
The diesel fuel level is monitored through a level indicator on
the control panel (25 in Fig. 21).
CAUTION
- Always ll the tank with the correct engine diesel fuel.
Other types of fuel having different speci cations may
damage the engine or reduce its power. Consult the
Caterpillar engine instruction manual.
- Switch the engine off and stay away from sources of heat
during fuel re- lls.
- When re lling, make sure that there is no water on the
fuel drum cover and do not take condensed water from
the drum bottom.
- Check that the 10 micron vent lter is in ef cient condition (2 in Fig. 60).
5.6 TRACKS
The tracks play an important role for vehicle stability and easy driving. This is why the shoes must be
monitored constantly as well as the track tensioning, which must always be at the correct value.
The pins and bushings in the undercarriage wear according to the type of soil and ground conditions.
5.6.1 TRACK SHOES
If the track shoe bolts (Fig. 61) are slackened during machine
operation, these are very likely to break. Periodically check
the shoe bolts and tighten them immediately if they prove
slackened.
Tighten the bolts according to the sequence shown in Fig. 61.
Then, ensure that the nut and shoe are contacting the surface
of the mesh.
