ENGINE LUBRICATION SYSTEM
OIL PUMP
REMOVAL
The crankcase must be separated to service the oil pump.
The oil pump service requires engine removal and disassembly.
Refer to the engine removal and engine disassembly sections
for oil pump removal. (!3-25)
INSPECTION
Rotate the oil pump by hand and check that it moves smoothly.
If it does not move smoothly, replace the oil pump assembly.

INSTALLATION
• Refer to the engine reassembly and the engine installation
sections to install the oil pump. (!3-63)
OIL SUMP FILTER/OIL PRESSURE
REGULATOR
REMOVAL
After draining engine oil, the following components must be
removed in the described order before removing the oil sump fil-
ter and the oil pressure regulator.
NOTE:
Refer to the following pages for the details of each step.
Drain:
• Engine oil (!2-9)
Remove:
• Exhaust pipe/muffler assembly (!3-5)
• Oil cooler hose union bolts
• Oil pan (!3-86)
Do not attempt to disassemble the oil pump assembly.
The oil pump is available only as an assembly.
