Portable Connector Chapter 9: Control Tabs

9.3.1.1 Reference Tools tab:
In this Reference Tools tab, a preset Reference Tool ID name can be
selected from the list of choices, with each ID’s values displayed. These
preset Reference Tool ID choices can be constructed and saved for use in
this tab using the “Tools\Reference Tools Add_Edit” menu choice. After
selecting a Reference Tool choice, insert that tool into the CC6000 mount
(with its arm leaning against the left protruding bar), adjust the front panel
focus knob until best contrast fringes can be seen on the Live View, and click
the Calibrate button to proceed with calculation and storage of Offset
Correction Factors. These factors will then be used for any future scans until
the calibration is run again.
9.3.1.2 Leveling Connector tab:
The Leveling Connector method of Offset Calibration uses a special
calibration artifact developed by and available from Thorlabs. The calibration
process involves insertion of the artifact into a CC6000 mount of same ferrule
diameter and then measuring it at eight different rotational positions (ideally
approximately 45 degree difference between each position). Each
measurement is activated in this tab by clicking the “Step <#>” button as it
sequences from 1 to 8. A “Done” message will be displayed when calculation
and storage of the Offset Correction Factors has completed.
NOTE: The last set of Correction Factors calculated (either via Reference
Tools or Leveling Connector method) will be the ones applied to the
measurements.
9.3.1.3 Magnification Calibration tab:
The Magnification Calibration procedure is an Administrator level procedure that
is conducted at Thorlabs. The robust design does not require a Magnification
Calibration to be conducted by the customer. The customer only has to enter the
magnification calibration factor located on the back of the interferometer into the
software after it has been installed.
Magnification Calibration assures that the correct system magnification is being
used during measurement scans, for accurate radius of curvature (ROC) and fiber
height results. A calibration standard, with NIST Traceable 10 mm and 25 mm
ROC, is used during this procedure.
The Magnification Calibration Procedure is not shown in the manual. If for any
reason a calibration is called for by Thorlabs, a procedure will be sent. If there is
a need to confirm the system is in calibration, the Thorlabs NIST-Traceable
standard can be purchased and measured in the same way as for a connector. Radius of Curvature results that are
within 2% of the calibration standard’s endface curvature sufficiently confirms that the instrument is in calibration.
