Replacethebladeifithitsasolidobject,ifitisoutofbalance,
orifitisbent.AlwaysusegenuineTororeplacementblades
tobesureofsafetyandoptimumperformance.Neveruse
replacementbladesmadebyothermanufacturersbecause
theycouldbedangerous.
1.Raisethemowerdecktothehighestposition.
2.Performthepremaintenanceprocedure;referto
PreparingtheMachineforMaintenance(page38).
3.Blockthemowerdecktopreventitfromaccidentally
falling.
4.Grasptheendofthebladeusingaragorthickly
paddedgloveandremovethebladebolt,anti-scalpcup,
andbladefromthespindleshaft(Figure99).

Beforeeachuseordaily
Youmustconsider2areasofthebladewhencheckingand
servicingit:thesailandthecuttingedge.Bothcuttingedges
andthesail,whichistheturned-upportionoppositeofthe
cuttingedge,contributetoagoodqualityofcut.Thesail
isimportantbecauseitliftsthegrassupstraight,thereby
producinganevencut.However,thesailgraduallywears
downduringoperation,whichisnormal.Asthesailwears
down,thequalityofcutdegradessomewhat,althoughthe
cuttingedgesaresharp.Thecuttingedgeoftheblademust
besharpsothatthegrassiscut,nottorn.Adullcutting
edgeisevidentwhenthetipsofthegrassappearbrownand
shredded.Sharpenthecuttingedgestocorrectthiscondition.
1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurface,raisethe
mowerdeck,engagetheparkingbrake,putthetraction
pedalinNEUTRAL,ensurethatthePTOswitchisin
theOFFposition,shutofftheengine,andremovethe
ignitionkey.
2.Examinethecuttingendsofthebladecarefully
(especiallywheretheatandcurvedpartsoftheblade
meet)asshowninFigure100.
Note:Sincesandandabrasivematerialcanwearaway
themetalthatconnectstheatandcurvedpartsofthe
blade,checkthebladebeforeusingthemower.Ifyou
noticewear,replacetheblade(Figure100).
