3.Removethehex-angedboltandangednutfromthe
negative-batterycableandnegative(-)batteryterminal,
andremovethecablefromthebattery(Figure73).

Donotjump-startabatteryiftheseconditions
exist;replacethebattery.
CAUTION
Corrosionorlooseconnectionscancauseunwanted
electricalvoltagespikesatanytimeduringthejump
startingprocedure.
Donotattempttojumpstartamachinewithloose
orcorrodedbatteryterminals,ordamagetothe
enginecanoccur.
CAUTION
Connectingthejumpercablesincorrectly(wrong
polarity)canimmediatelydamagetheelectrical
system.
Becertainofthebattery-terminalpolarityand
thejumper-cablepolaritywhenconnectingtothe
battery.
Important:Besurethatthevehiclesdonottouch
andthatbothelectricalsystemsareoffandatthe
sameratedsystemvoltage.Theseinstructionsarefor
negative-groundsystemsonly.
Important:Usetheproperlysizedjumpercables(4to
6AWG)withshortlengthstoreducethevoltagedrop
betweensystems.Ensurethatthecablesarecolorcoded
orlabeledforthecorrectpolarity.
