1.3 Software overview
BioSans™ is the main operator interface for all system communications, generation of 3D perspective images, and
X-ray scanning. Its functionalities focus on the clarity and quality of the 3D perspective images, high level of threat
detection and ease of use for the operator. BioSans™ technology includes the following:
l
Threat detection assist alerts the operator of the presence of potential threats, such as prohibited organic
material, explosives, or high-density objects. The list of materials can be customized. Note that the threat
detection assist system is an operator assistance tool and can result in a high rate of false positives. This feature
should be used at the operator’s discretion.
o
Organic – Anything with a carbon base, such as clothing, food, water, or paper
o
Inorganic – Anything metallic, such as a cell phone, knife, or firearm
o
Mixed organic/inorganic recognition
l
Image Enhancement uses zoom, pan, flip, and contrast to enhance the scanned image
l
Continuous Scanning mode
l
Manual Search Required (MSR) to tag items and save the archive files to a specific folder. The scanned item is
directed to an optional search area
l
Language Selection provides multilingual operator interface options, such as English, French, Spanish, or
Arabic
l
Material Classification (optional) customizable detection material groups
l
Risk Assessment Module (optional) defines 5 different levels of security, which modify system settings to
provide better image quality and higher sensitivity detection assistance
l
TIP Management (optional) provides continuous operator training and evaluation
l
Advanced System Settings – BioSans™ maintenance applications that are used by a technician and can be
triggered by an administrator or supervisor
l
Remote Archive Viewer (optional) – RAV is used to review archives remotely when an operator needs higher
level permission for any suspect archive
l
VOTI Mail Feature (optional) – With VOTI Mail function, the VOTI security scanner can better scan mail and
parcels for irregularities in density and contents
l
VOTI ID (RFID scan with baggage scan - optional) – With RFID, a specific number can be attached with archives.
It is useful in identifying Baggage Archive vs. its owner.
