2.4 E-Plate 96 and RTCA Resistor Plate 96
E-Plates 96 are single use, disposable devices used for performing cell-based assays on
the RTCA SP Instrument. e E-Plate 96 is similar to commonly used 96x well micro-
titer plates. Each well of the 96 wells on the E-Plates 96 has incorporated sensor electrode
arrays so that cells inside each well can be monitored and assayed.
e plate has a low evaporation lid design. e bottom diameter of each well is 5.0 mm
±0.05 mm, with a total volume of 243 μl ± 5 μl. Approx. 80% of the bottom area of each
well are covered by the electrodes. e plate is designed to be used in an environment of
+15°C to +40°C, relative humidity 98% maximum without condensation.

For system veri cation purpose, the RTCA Resistor Plate 96 is used with the RTCA SP
Instrument as a standard accessory (see section on Resistor Plate Veri cation of the RTCA SP
Instrument). e RTCA Resistor Plate 96 has the same size as the E-Plate 96. Instead of a
micro
sensor array, an array of resistors is placed at each well position in such a way that it shows
resistance values close to that of an E-Plate 96 when only cell media are put into each well.
System functionality can be veri ed by putting the RTCA Resistor Plate 96 in the
RTCA SP Station.
RTCA Resistor Plates 96 are not instrument-speci c. Each RTCA Resistor Plates 96 can be
used to perform Resistor Plate Veri cation on each RTCA SP Station or RTCA MP Station.
