To Switch from an EI XTR, SS, or Inert Source to the CI Source
Procedure
1 Vent the MSD. (See “To Vent the MSD” on page 113.)
2 Open the analyzer. (See “To Open the Analyzer Chamber” on page 152.)
3 Remove the EI source. (See “To Remove the EI XTR, SS, or Inert Source” on
page 172.)
4 If removing an XTR source, remove the brown extractor wire from the
ceramic source board and store it with the EI XTR source. (See Figure 55 on
page 173.)
5 Install the CI source. (See “To Install the CI Source” on page 225.)
6 Install the CI/Extractor interface tip seal if it is not already installed
(p/n G3870-20542). (See “To Install the Interface Tip Seal” on page 50.)
7 Close the analyzer. (See “To Close the Analyzer Chamber” on page 196.)
8 Pumpdown the MSD. (See “To Pumpdown the MSD in CI Mode” on
page 124.)
Always verify MSD performance in EI before switching to CI operation.
Always set up the CI MSD in PCI first, even if you are going to run NCI.
Electrostatic discharges to analyzer components are conducted to the side board
where they can damage sensitive components. Wear a grounded antistatic wrist strap.
(See “Electrostatic discharge” on page 148.) Take antistatic precautions before you
open the analyzer chamber.
