Check the Basics
Problems can be solved by repeating what was being performed when the

the following checks:
• Check that the line socket has power.
• Check that the power meter is plugged into the proper AC power
source.
• Check that the power meter is switched on.
• Check that the line fuse is in working condition.
• Check that the other equipment, cables, and connectors are connected
properly and operating correctly.
• Check the equipment settings in the procedure that was being used
when the problem occurred.
• Check that the test being performed and the expected results are within
the specifications and capabilities of the power meter.
• Check the power meter display for error messages. Refer to Chapter 4
for further information.
• Check operation by performing the self tests.
• Check with a different power sensor.
Instrument serial numbers
Agilent Technologies makes frequent improvements to its products to
enhance their performance, usability, and reliability. Agilent Technologies
service personnel have access to complete records of design changes for
each instrument, based on the instruments’ serial number and option
designation.
Whenever you contact Agilent Technologies about your power meter, have
a complete serial number available. This will ensure that you obtain the
most complete and accurate service information. The serial number can be
obtained by:
• interrogating the power meter over the GPIB using the *IDN? command.
