To Switch from the EI HES to the CI Source
Procedure
1 Vent the MSD. (See“To Vent the MSD” on page 136.) The software will
prompt you for the appropriate actions.
2 Open the left side access panel. (See“To Open the MSD Covers” on
page 135.)
3 Open the analyzer chamber. (See“To Open the Analyzer Chamber” on
page 176.)
4 Remove the EI HES. (See“To Remove the EI HES” on page 178.)
5 Make sure the EI HES source has cooled and then place it in its storage
container.
6 Remove the EI HES radiator. (See“To Remove the EI HES Radiator” on
page 224.)
7 Place the EI HES radiator in the storage container.
8 Remove the CI source radiator from the storage container.
9 Install the CI source radiator. (See“To Install the CI Source Radiator” on
page 227.)
10 Remove the CI source from the storage container.
11 Install the CI source. This requires shortening the column so that it protrudes
from the transfer line by 1 to 2 mm. (See“To Install the CI Source” on
page 250.)
12 Pumpdown the MSD. (See“To Pumpdown the MSD in CI Mode” on
page 148.)
Always verify GC/MSD performance in EI before switching to CI operation.
Electrostatic discharges to analyzer components are conducted to the side
board where they can damage sensitive components. Wear a grounded
antistatic wrist strap. (See“Electrostatic discharge is a threat to MSD
electronics” on page 22.) Take antistatic precautions before you open the
analyzer chamber.
