System Power
3.1.1 Uninterruptible Power Supply
The number of UPS devices needed to power an Ascom Telligence system depends on the
number and locations of the equipment to be powered. Size the UPS to provide enough
power for each equipment item, as shown in Figure 19., plus any supplementary
communications equipment that supports enhanced communications – for example,
Ascom mobility servers, third-party phone gateways, etc. Size the UPS to provide power to
the Ascom Telligence system for a one hour duration, minimum. Refer to the UPS
manufacturer data sheets for power duration and power de-rating specifications.

Ascom recommends selecting a rack-mountable UPS having at least four 120/240VAC
outlets.
The UPS shall be compliant with the following:
• For system installations employing HC-IPSWITCH8 units the UPS must provide a
minimum of 2100 Joules surge protection.
• For US and Canada installations, the UPS shall be listed to UL 1778.
• For installations requiring special seismic certification pre-approval, refer to OSHPD
Installation Requirements and Instructions (P/N 3101998) and use only those UPS
devices, racks and cabinets.
• All Telligence system powering equipment shall be sufficiently protected to prevent
accidental removal of the power cords to the UPS.
