NUBM3X-HE Active Bedside Extension
Module Installation Sheet
Description
The NUBM3X Active Bedside Extension module is an
interface module mounted between a NUBM3
Customizable Bedside module and a Television Interface
(NIAT) module and for external I/O. It allows NUHS14B-
series handsets to receive stereo audio signal from TVs.
The module also contains an external call contact and LED
driver that can connect to third-party call devices.
The Bedside Extension module must be mounted next to
the NUBM3 Customizable Bedside module.
Active Bedside Extension Module (Front and Back)
When using backboxes or spacers, knock out the holes in
the sides of the backboxes or spacers and run the cable
through the holes, as shown the following graphic.
External Call Contact with Call LED
Output
The external call connection allows an external, normally-
open (or normally-closed) third-party contact to activate a
call.
The 4-pole connector has a switch contact that connects to
a normally open contact. The other side of the normally
open contact must be connected to the GND terminal of
the 4-pole connector.
The call LED output is an open collector output on the LED
connection of the 4-pole connector. The anode of the
external LED circuit must be connected to the LED+
terminal of the 4-pole connector.
External Call Connect with Call LED
Note: The maximum acceptable load on the LED circuit is
10mA.
Note: The cable length to the external call device must not
exceed 10m (33ft.) and the cable must be appropriately
separated from power cables and sources of electromagnetic
interference.
If line monitoring is desired, a 22k end-of-line resistor can be
added to the third-party device’s connection cable. The
module is able to monitor for any line breaks, which will then
activate a call in the system.
