Room Modules
7 Room Modules
Room modules are addressable devices connected to a room bus. Active modules can be
assigned a room bus address by setting DIP switches on the modules, or they can be
addressed using the configuration tool software. Passive modules do not require room bus
addressing.
All modules have the same basic format. Each module mounts on a backbox with a single
frame. Most can be combined with other modules on multiple backboxes using double or
triple frames. When no backboxes are available, most modules can be mounted with
spacers.
Most modules have one, two, or three buttons with LEDs, while some modules have
buzzers for call annunciation. The software determines the functions of the buttons and
buzzers when the system is configured.
This chapter covers the installation of the modules to room buses. Be sure to review all
sections before you begin installing the modules, as this will help you to ensure that the
modules will function properly.
7.1 Preparation
Before installing any room bus module, be sure to do the following:
Review to each module’s electrical connection and assembly details in this chapter
before installing the device.
Verify that areas used for module installation are clean, dry, and weatherproof. (The
Ingress Protection for most modules is IP40. The Ingress Protection for pull cords is
IP44.)
Confirm that the walls on which the modules are being mounted are finished (painted,
wallpapered, etc.) before installing the modules.
Pull at least 15cm (6in.) of free cable through the backbox or spacer at every location
where modules are to be installed.
